John Marjoribanks Egerton

John M. Egerton established Sneaton Pottery in the 60’s after attending Scarborough and Hornsey London Colleges of Art.

With a faithful and ever growing following, his creations are collected across the whole of the UK.

Whilst his pieces are mainly thrown on the wheel, John M. Egerton also enjoys the freedom and informality of hand building. John uses oxidised stoneware, to create artworks whose highly decorated surfaces are achieved by drawing through the glaze, when still well, after bisque firing.

Finding in nature an endless source of design ideas and textures, John aims to interpret directly onto pots, and other vessels, the moorland and coastal scenes that he sees around him in his beautiful part of North Yorkshire. He is equally well known for exuberant floral patterns which are often reminiscent of motifs found in the Arts & Crafts movement.
