Alan Cameron is a Scottish artist whose one of his main areas of work are the landscapes of Scotland and Italy. This provides an abundance of material ,spanning landform, colour, grain and light. The pieces are observations of natural patterns balanced with the interventions and activities of people expressed as dykes, terraces, fields, woodlands and settlements.
His first thematic solo exhibition was in 1984 when the main strands of this work were set. Alan’s work is figurative and interpretative and seeks to capture the essential ingredients of his subjects; their form, texture, colour and temperature.
Pieces are produced in a variety of media, predominantly in pastel but also in oils, pencil and mixed media.
Alan is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee and The University of Edinburgh. He often gives talks and holds classes for art groups, including the Edinburgh Drawing School and tuition for individuals.
Alan has also enjoyed a varied career as an architect and landscape architect, which in concert with art, has allowed a creative balance of design for the present and future with interpretation of what is already there.
Alan Cameron lives and works in Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders and in Edinburgh.
