David graduated from the School of Drawing and Painting, Edinburgh College of Art in 1970. Tutors included the renowned William Gillies, Robin Philipson, John Houston and Elizabeth Blackadder.
Starting as a teacher of Art and Design from 1971, David became the Principal Teacher in Kelso High School from 1978 until retirement in 2008.
Teaching commitments included work as SQA Examiner, Regional Trainer for Art and Design in Scottish Borders schools, Subject Advisor to the General Teaching Council in Scotland and Associate Assessor with HMIE.
Upon retirement in 2008, David started painting full time. He is represented by several galleries in the Scottish Borders as well as Velvet Easel Gallery, Portobello; Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh; Hanover Fine Arts, Edinburgh; Flaubert Gallery, Edinburgh; Laurel Gallery, Edinburgh; Art Amatoria, Edinburgh; Galleria Luti, Callander; High Street Gallery, Kirkcudbright; Chatton and Bamburgh Galleries, Northumberland; Red Barn, Cumbria; Dirleton Gallery, Direlton; E.Stacey-Marks, Yorkshire and Suffolk; Ruthven Gallery, Auchterarder.
David became a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland in 2006. He is a regular exhibitor in RSA, RSW and Visual Arts Scotland exhibitions.
